After epidemic delays, USS Oregon joins Navy fleet

The newest Virginia-class fast attack submarine was christened in 2019.

The COVID-19 epidemic caused some "slips in schedule," said U.S. Rep.

“Despite that unparalleled disturbance, you came up every day and performed your job,” Courtney told the crew of 136 Navy employees during Saturday's event in Groton.

The people of Rhode Island will be 100% behind you throughout deployments, Courtney declared.

Due to the epidemic, it was the Navy's first commissioning ceremony since 2019. USS Hyman Rickover was christened in 2021.

Oregon Gov. Kate Brown, who feels at home in the mist and dreary sky, advised the team to embrace Oregonians' spirit of adventure, daring, collaboration, and compassion.
