One of Windows 11's ugliest features may finally be fixed by Microsoft.

Microsoft has placed a search bar on the desktop for some users in a new Windows 11 insider release, claiming that this is the first stage of an experiment to remove widgets from the Taskbar.

If you're a member of the Windows Insider programme, you may download Windows 11 Build 25120 from the Dev Channel.

Microsoft has stated that this will not affect all of its programme participants, but a restart may help some of them.

While you can access widgets via a button on the Taskbar's bottom left, this is the first time you can use a widget directly.

However, owing to Windows Vista, we've been here before. Even though Microsoft calls this an experiment

it could be the start of a larger effort to solve widgets, which has been a source of frustration for Windows users since 2006.
