Parking on sidewalks is 'discriminatory'

The research, commissioned by Sustrans, shows that individuals are discouraged from walking by parked automobiles on the sidewalk.

Around 70% of respondents, both handicapped and able-bodied, felt fewer automobiles would let them walk or wheel more.

Discrimination against wheelchair and mobility scooter users, other handicapped individuals, and those with vision impairments is rampant in pavement parking.

The DfT is "currently investigating ideas for tackling pavement parking" and will announce the
next actions shortly.

The UK government wants 50% of all urban travel to be walked or biked by 2030. We can't achieve this until we make walking and wheeling more accessible and inclusive."

The UK budget for cycling and walking is £2bn, compared to £27bn for highways.

This was the largest volcanic outburst in 140 years.
