Gov. John Carney of Delaware declared on Tuesday that he will veto legislation that would have legalised recreational marijuana in the First State, claiming it is not in the state's best interests.
The Democratic governor, who has previously expressed doubt about the benefits of legalising recreational marijuana
vetoed legislation that would have repealed all penalties for adults possessing up to an ounce of marijuana.
Carney acknowledged that the medicine can have a "good effect" for some people with health problems.
He also favours decriminalisation because "I agree that individuals should not be imprisoned purely for the possession and private use of a tiny amount of marijuana
