A student from Richardson High School was apprehended after a citizen reported seeing a gun.

On Wednesday, May 25, police detained a Berkner High School student after discovering a semi-automatic gun and a replica AR-15 style pellet rifle in his vehicle.

Richardson Police received a complaint about 10:55 a.m. from a business in the 1500 block of East Spring Valley Road regarding a male

suspect coming towards the high school with what appeared to be a rifle.

Police officers arrived at the high school in minutes and immediately began examining the event. The school was placed into lockdown, and neighbouring schools were also contacted.

The student had an AK-47 style pistol and a pellet rifle in his vehicle, according to further research. The suspect, a minor, was detained and charged with illegally carrying guns in a weapons

weapons-free school zone, a felony that carries a state prison sentence. At 11:45 a.m., police gave the school the "all-clear" signal.
